UP Board class 10 Important Questions:-
Probability

Q.1- 12 defective pens are accidently mixed with 132 good ones. It is not possible to just look at a pen and tell whether it is defective or not. One pen is taken out at random from this lot. Determine that pen taken out is good one.
Total pens = 12 (defective) + 132 (good) = 144
Number of good pens = 132
P(good pen) = (Number of good pens) / (Total pens)
P(good pen) = 132 / 144 = 11 / 12

Q.N.2→ A die is thrown once, find the probability of getting an odd number will be?
Total outcomes on a die = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}
Odd numbers = {1, 3, 5} (3 favorable outcomes)
P(odd number) = (Favorable outcomes) / (Total outcomes)
P(odd number) = 3 / 6 = 1 / 2
-
Q.N.3→ A box contains 4 red marbles, 8 white marbles and 5 green marbles, one marble is taken out from the box at random. what is the probability that marble taken out will be
(i) red
(ii) not green
Total marbles = 4 (red) + 8 (white) + 5 (green) = 17
(i) P(red):
P(red) = (Number of red marbles) / (Total marbles) = 4 / 17
(ii) P(not green):
Number of non-green marbles = 4 (red) + 8 (white) = 12
P(not green) = 12 / 17

Q.N:4→ One Card is drawn from a well shuffled pack of 52 Cards, find the probability of getting
(i) A king of red colour
(ii) A face card.
Total cards = 52
(i) P(king of red colour):
Red kings = King of Hearts, King of Diamonds (2 cards)
P(red king) = 2 / 52 = 1 / 26
(ii) P(face card):
Face cards = Jack, Queen, King in 4 suits (3 x 4 = 12 cards)
P(face card) = 12 / 52 = 3 / 13

Q.N.5→ what is probability of getting a head when a coin is tossed once?
Total outcomes on a coin toss = {Head, Tail} (2 outcomes)
Favorable outcome = {Head} (1 outcome)
P(head) = (Favorable outcomes) / (Total outcomes)
P(head) = 1 / 2
